Valentine’s Day London restaurants and hotels book up faster than on any other night of the year, so the most useful advice is simple: book early. The best romantic restaurants, such as Clos Maggiore in Covent Garden or Andrew Edmunds in Soho, fill weeks ahead, many places serve a set menu on the night, and hotels with a view go quickly. Choose a restaurant first, then build the evening around it.

This guide covers when to book, where to eat, what to do beyond dinner, where to stay, and how a Valentine’s evening works if you’d like to spend it with a dinner date companion.

When to book for Valentine’s Day in London

In 2027, 14 February falls on a Sunday, so expect Saturday the 13th to be just as busy as the day itself, and the whole weekend to book up early. As a rough guide:

  • Well-known romantic restaurants: book as soon as bookings open, often several weeks ahead.
  • Hotels: a month or more ahead for a room with a view or a suite.
  • Theatre, opera and ballet: book when the season goes on sale for the best seats.
  • Flowers: order a few days ahead and arrange delivery to the hotel or the table.

If you’ve left it late, consider the day before or after. You’ll get better tables, more relaxed service and, very often, the full menu rather than the Valentine’s set menu.

Valentine’s Day London restaurants worth booking

Clos Maggiore, at 33 King Street in Covent Garden, is regularly named one of the most romantic restaurants in the world. Ask for the conservatory, filled with blossom and soft light under a retractable roof; the wine list is one of the deepest in London. Andrew Edmunds, at 46 Lexington Street in Soho, is the opposite in style: a small, candlelit eighteenth-century townhouse with a handwritten menu that changes daily and a famously fair wine list.

For something more theatrical, Bob Bob Ricard on Upper James Street, just off Golden Square, seats every table in its own booth, each with a “Press for Champagne” button. And Sketch, at 9 Conduit Street in Mayfair, has a three-Michelin-star dining room in the Lecture Room and Library and the Gallery, known for its afternoon tea and its artist-designed interiors.

Our guides to romantic restaurants in London and Michelin-star restaurants have more choices for the night.

What to ask when you book the table

  • Is there a set menu on the night, and what does it include? Check dietary needs can be met.
  • How long is the table yours? Many restaurants run two sittings on Valentine’s Day.
  • Can you request a particular table, such as a corner, a booth or the conservatory?
  • Can flowers, a card or a bottle be waiting when you arrive?
  • What is the cancellation policy? Valentine’s bookings often need a deposit or card details.

Valentine’s ideas beyond dinner

  • Afternoon tea. A long afternoon tea in the Palm Court at The Ritz or the Drawing Room at Brown’s Hotel takes the pressure off the evening. See our guide to afternoon tea in London.
  • Ballet or opera. The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden is a short walk from Clos Maggiore, which makes a natural pairing.
  • A view. The Sky Garden is free if you book a timed ticket in advance, and the city at dusk from up there is hard to beat. Our guide to rooftop bars in London has more.
  • Jazz. A table at Ronnie Scott’s in Soho, with dinner and a bottle while you listen, is romantic without trying too hard.
  • A walk. Waterloo Bridge and the South Bank after dark cost nothing and look wonderful.

Hotels for a Valentine’s night

A hotel turns a good dinner into an occasion. The Savoy’s river-view rooms look over the Thames, Shangri-La The Shard puts the whole city beneath your window, and smaller places such as The Milestone in Kensington or Ham Yard Hotel in Soho feel more intimate. Ask the concierge to have flowers or champagne waiting, request a late check-out when you book, and consider dinner in the hotel so the evening never needs a taxi. Our guide to luxury hotels in London covers each area in more detail.

Spending Valentine’s Day with a dinner date companion

Not everyone spends Valentine’s Day with a partner, and there’s no reason to stay in. Many of our clients book a companion for the evening: someone warm who is good company at the table. A dinner date usually lasts about three hours and is typically around £800, and an overnight of about eight hours is usually around £2,000. Rates are for time and escortship.

Because 14 February is busy for us too, book a few days ahead rather than on the day, and tell us the restaurant, the time and how long you’d like. Make the restaurant booking in your own name. She’ll dress for the venue and meet you there or at your hotel, as you prefer. Our guides to dinner dates and overnights and escort etiquette explain the details, and first date tips help any evening go well.

Many of the ladies we work with are based in central London, including Mayfair and Marylebone, a short ride from the West End. Browse our London escorts, then contact the concierge to arrange your evening.

A Valentine’s evening, step by step

If you’d like a simple plan, here is one that rarely fails. Book the restaurant for around eight, which gives you time for a drink first without rushing. Meet at a hotel bar nearby, rather than in a crowded pub, so you can hear each other. Order flowers to the table or the room in advance, not on the day, when florists are overwhelmed. After dinner, take the long way back: along the river, across Waterloo Bridge or through Covent Garden’s quieter streets. Finish with a nightcap at your hotel, and leave the morning free for a late breakfast.

If the 14th itself is impossible, celebrate the weekend before or after. Restaurants are calmer, the full menu is back, and the evening feels like yours rather than everyone’s.

Small touches that make the night

  • Write a card by hand. It takes five minutes and is remembered for years.
  • Don’t over-plan. One special thing, done well, beats four rushed ones.
  • Arrive early and order a drink, so you’re relaxed when your date arrives.
  • Put your phone away for the evening.
  • Choose something you’ll both enjoy, not something that looks good in photographs.

A note from the concierge: venues change their menus, rooms, hours and house rules more often than guides can keep up with, so please check directly with the venue before you go.

Questions

For the best-known romantic restaurants, book as soon as bookings open, which can be several weeks ahead. If you leave it late, the day before or after is much easier and often comes with the full menu.

Clos Maggiore in Covent Garden is often named the most romantic, thanks to its blossom-filled conservatory. Andrew Edmunds in Soho is a candlelit, more intimate alternative.

Afternoon tea at a grand hotel, ballet or opera at the Royal Opera House, jazz at Ronnie Scott's, or the view from the Sky Garden all work well. A walk across Waterloo Bridge after dark is free and lovely.

Yes. A dinner date usually lasts about three hours and is typically around £800. It's one of our busiest nights, so book a few days ahead and tell us the restaurant and time.

In 2027, 14 February falls on a Sunday, so Saturday 13 February will be just as busy for restaurants and hotels. Book both nights early if you can.
