London has dozens of Michelin star restaurants, and six of them hold the full three stars in the 2026 Michelin Guide: Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, Sketch’s Lecture Room and Library, Core by Clare Smyth and The Ledbury. Below is our concierge’s selection of twelve Michelin star restaurants in London for a special evening, with the star status each held in the 2026 guide, plus how to book and what to expect.
The 2026 guide was announced in February 2026. Stars can change from one year to the next, and restaurants occasionally close or move, so check the current guide, and check with the restaurant itself about menus, prices and dress code before you go.
How the Michelin stars work
The Michelin Guide awards stars for the cooking alone, not for the décor or the wine list. One star marks high-quality cooking worth a stop, two stars excellent cooking worth a detour, and three stars exceptional cooking that is worth planning a trip around. In practice, a one-star restaurant can be relaxed and affordable at lunch, while three stars usually means a long tasting menu, a formal room and a bill to match. Neither is automatically the more romantic choice; it depends on the evening you want. A two-star room with a relaxed atmosphere can make for a far better date than a three-star room where you feel you have to whisper.
London’s three-star restaurants
Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Chelsea (three stars)
Gordon Ramsay’s flagship is a small, hushed dining room in Chelsea, which is part of its appeal. The cooking is classical and precise, the service attentive without being stiff. It feels genuinely intimate, so it suits an anniversary or a proposal better than a business dinner.
Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, Mayfair (three stars)
Inside The Connaught on Carlos Place, Hélène Darroze cooks refined French food built on carefully sourced British produce. The cooking is elegant rather than showy, and the hotel’s famous Connaught Bar is a few steps away for a drink before or after.
Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, Park Lane (three stars)
The Dorchester’s fine-dining room is one of the most formal of the six: French haute cuisine, polished service and a sense of old-school luxury. If you want the full ceremony of a great hotel restaurant, this is it.
Sketch: The Lecture Room and Library, Mayfair (three stars)
On the first floor of Sketch on Conduit Street, the Lecture Room and Library is one of the most opulent dining rooms in London, serving elaborate modern French cooking across many small plates. It’s dramatic and ornate, best for a celebration where you want the room to be part of the memory.
Core by Clare Smyth, Notting Hill (three stars)
On Kensington Park Road since 2017, Core holds three stars and made Clare Smyth the first British woman to hold three at her own restaurant. The cooking celebrates British produce, and the room feels more like an elegant townhouse than an institution: relaxed, warm and unhurried. One of the easiest three-star rooms to enjoy.
The Ledbury, Notting Hill (three stars)
A short walk from Core, The Ledbury on Ledbury Road holds three stars and is known for serious, seasonal modern cooking in a calm, elegant room. Two of London’s best restaurants within a few minutes of each other make Notting Hill an obvious choice for a special night in west London; our Notting Hill page shows who is based nearby.
Two-star restaurants worth booking
The Ritz Restaurant, St James’s (two stars)
Promoted to two stars in the 2025 guide, and keeping them in 2026, The Ritz Restaurant serves classical, Escoffier-inspired cooking in one of the most beautiful dining rooms in London. The Ritz expects smart dress throughout the hotel, so check the current dress code when you book.
Gymkhana, Mayfair (two stars)
On Albemarle Street, Gymkhana serves modern Indian cooking in a dark, clubby room inspired by the sporting clubs of colonial India. It became the first Indian restaurant in London to hold two stars, and it’s one of the hardest tables in Mayfair to get, so plan ahead.
Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Knightsbridge (two stars)
At the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, Dinner reworks historic British recipes with modern technique. It has announced that it will close at the hotel in January 2027, so the coming months are the last chance to eat there.
Ikoyi, Strand (two stars)
At 180 Strand, Ikoyi pairs West African spice with seasonal British produce in a tasting menu unlike anything else in London. It’s adventurous, so it suits a couple who enjoy food as much as the occasion.
The 2026 guide also gave two stars to two new Mayfair restaurants, Bonheur by Matt Abé and Row on 5, both worth watching.
One star, and easier to book
HIDE, Piccadilly (one star)
Overlooking Green Park from 85 Piccadilly, HIDE holds one star for its tasting menu upstairs and has a vast wine list. Window tables with a view of the park make it a lovely setting at sunset.
Trishna, Marylebone (one star)
Trishna has held a star since 2012 for its south-west Indian coastal cooking. Small, relaxed and far less formal than anything above, it’s a good way to enjoy Michelin cooking on a weeknight. See our Marylebone page for ladies based nearby.
How to book Michelin star restaurants in London
- Book direct. The restaurant’s own website is the most reliable route. Many release tables on a rolling basis, often weeks or months ahead, and the best slots go quickly.
- Be flexible. Midweek dinners and lunch sittings are far easier to secure than a Saturday night, and lunch is often a shorter, less expensive menu.
- Join the waiting list. Cancellations happen, especially in the last day or two.
- Expect to give card details. Most take a card or deposit to hold the table, with a charge for late cancellation or no-shows. Read the terms.
- Say what matters. Mention allergies, dietary needs and the occasion when you book, not on the night.
What to expect on the night
A tasting menu at this level usually takes three hours or more, so don’t plan anything tight afterwards. Dress smartly; even where there’s no formal code, you’ll feel more comfortable. You can choose a wine pairing or a bottle; the sommelier will happily guide you to something within your budget if you point to a price on the list. Most London restaurants add a discretionary service charge to the bill. Prices at three-star level, once wine and service are added, can easily reach several hundred pounds per person; one-star restaurants and lunch menus cost far less.
A Michelin dinner as a dinner date
A long tasting menu makes a memorable dinner date, but plan the timing. Our standard dinner date is three hours, around £800, which is tight for a full tasting menu plus the rest of the evening. Many clients add an extra hour or book an overnight instead; our guide to dinner dates and overnights explains the options. Tell us the restaurant and the dress code and she’ll dress for the room. Browse our London escorts, check the ladies near Mayfair or Park Lane, and contact us a day or two ahead.
For something less formal, see our pick of romantic restaurants in London. For a drink beforehand, our guide to speakeasy and cocktail bars covers the great hotel bars of Mayfair, and our date night ideas fill in the rest of the evening.
